Should I keep trying?

if he told you your friend hit on him, then he clearly likes you and wants your trust.. some people just don't like to text.. just ask him if your testing bothers him. It just seams your trying to move faster then he is.. If yu have only spoken a few times maybe he isn't sure of you yet. You said you had date plans so he is clearly trying to get to know you.. slow down don't rush things.. get to know him as well.. If you push to hard to fast you will only scare him away.. My advice is to just relax if it happens it happens if not then he isn't the right one for you...
